A perfect Sunday activity for the coming weekend and a potential alternative for Christmas shopping: The exhibition Photo Signe Brander. An extensive selection of the beloved photographer’s shots of Helsinki from a hundred years ago is now on display at Hakasalmi Villa, Helsinki.
Signe Brander documented changing city scenes in Helsinki in the early 20th century. In fact, her first exhibition was held almost exactly a 100 years ago at the same place, the Hakasalmi Villa.http://dekor-okno.ru
The above photo with laundry hanging throughout the “guard’s garden”, is one of the examples of how radically Helsinki and the lives of its people have changed during the last 100 years. Brander did not only document the wooden houses and fishermen’s huts soon-to-be disappearing under the city growth, but also wanted to capture the everyday lives of people.
The exhibition is open Wed-Sun 11am to 5pm until 28 March, 2010.
