KALASATAMA TEMPORARY

with 1 Comment

The Varjosatama – Shadow Harbour exhibition and birthday party by Napa Illustrations was one of the first events this autumn at Kalasatama, presenting asphalt paintings by illustrators from Helsinki. This former harbour area in eastern Helsinki is now a huge empty asphalt ground with great views towards the city – but also an official scene for temporary uses. This is the largest urban planning project in Helsinki for decades, and the city has shown an up-to-date spirit by officially incorporating temporary uses in the development of the area, which is estimated to take even 30 years until finished. Inhabitants of Helsinki are welcome to pursue their ideas here! I have the honor to be a member of the temporary uses coordinating team at Part. So far, we have enjoyed a sunny brunch with dj’s, food and brainstorming, drive-in movies and street art. There will be more to come!

Keep checking the Kalasatama Temporary blog for info about events, or to participate with your own ideas!
