In between two of the autumn’s biggest film festivals in Helsinki region – right after last month’s Espoo Ciné and just before Love and Anarchy – a small yet significant film festival Merihätä (Maritime emergency) was arranged at Bio Rex. It presented quality documentaries, only for two days – and only about fish!
The story goes like this: a group of friends decided that people should know more about the conditions of fishing and world’s oceans today. So they ordered some of the latest documentaries from abroad and rented Bio Rex, a charming film theater in the centre of Helsinki. There we have a new member on the ever-growing list of independent film festivals that enliven the otherwise limited film supply in Helsinki.
